How we can obtain true humidity data for the YMC campaign? (#1050)
International field campaign the Years of the Maritime Continent (YMC) offers the opportunity to use high resolution radiosonde data provided by many participants including the Maritime Continent local operational agencies from Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia. While each site adopts various types of radiosonde and they satisfy the need for operational use, they often show different humidity profiles by types mainly due to different correction scheme for solar radiation induced error. To produce the same quality data sets regardless with sites, we examine their quality and try to produce corrected data, if necessary. To this end, we conducted intercomparison of different radiosondes (Vaisala RS41, Lockheed Martin LMS6, and Modem M10) during the intensive observation called YMC-Boreal Summer Monsoon study in 2018 at Laoag, Philippines, July - August 2018. At that time, we also deployed GNSS receiver to derive precipitable water vapor continuously. While we can confirm their difference of radiosonde humidity data by direct comparison, the difference found in the comparison of precipitable water vapor between GNSS-derived and radiosonde-derived requires explanation about which provides more accurate data. In this talk, we show several examination results to explain this difference by using surface meteorology, satellite, and others, which may contribute to obtain accurate radiosonde humidity data.
