Dr Joëlle Gergis is an award-winning climate scientist and writer from the University of Melbourne, Australia. Her research focuses on reconstructing Southern Hemisphere climate variability and extremes over the past 1000 years. In 2014 her team won the 'Eureka Prize for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Scientific Research' for developing a landmark initiative, spanning the sciences and the humanities to reconstruct south-eastern Australia's climate variability back to first European settlement in 1788. Joëlle is currently an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) fellow working on Australian temperature and rainfall extremes and assessing historical societal impacts relevant to climate change adaptation. Her new book 'Sunburnt Country: The future and history of climate change in Australia' was released by Melbourne University Publishing in April 2018.
